Having ridden as a child and throughout much of my adult life, I have always found inspiration from horses. Having drawn horses for as long as I can remember, I discovered that where words have often failed to convey my thoughts, art has saved the day. The reason I mention this seemingly inconsequential detail about my life is to explain the reason behind this blog (as I don't think I have done so till now) which is to record my journey of emotional rediscovery through my personal artistic interpretation and expression of the Horse.
For most of us, life has had us following various paths towards self discovery and personal understanding. For the past fews years I have been on such a journey. My journey of self discovery or rediscovery if you will, took a new turn when I made my 2012 New Years resolution. Rather then promise myself that I would go to the gym every morning (like that would really happen), I promised myself that I would start drawing again and through my art, embark on a journey of emotional rediscovery by drawing the one animal that I have always had a deep emotional connection to - the Horse.
Having been glued to the TV for much of this evening watching Horse & Country's "Getting to Greenwich", I found myself feeling inspired to draw for the first time since moving into my new flat - YIPPEE!
This evening's moment of inspiration and subsequent monologue, has given birth to what I am calling 'Series 3'. The subject matter of this series will pertain to the various riding disciplines of the equine world (dressage, eventing and show jumping). The programme I watched on H&C this evening (about 8 equestrian Olympic hopefuls) inspired in me thoughts about equine form & movement. However after the 2nd or 3rd episodes, I found that what I considered to be my initial moment of inspiration, was moving in a direction where I found myself asking questions about the emotions behind the form and movement(s) I was watching.
From a single moment of inspiration, an internal dialogue was begun and with it, a new direction on my journey of emotional rediscovery. The following drawing has been a direct result of this evening and is to be the first in 'Series 3'.
So having said all that.... let us begin.
